9 Percent of Meat, Poultry Workers Diagnosed with COVID-19

Nine percent of workers in meat and poultry processing facilities in 14 states have been diagnosed with COVID-19, according to new research from the CDC. In addition, aggregate data from 23 states shows that COVID-19 was confirmed in 16,233 workers from 239 affected facilities.

“Distinctive factors that increase meat and poultry processing workers’ risk for exposure to COVID-19 include prolonged close workplace contact with coworkers for long time periods, shared work spaces, shared transportation to and from the workplace, congregate housing, and frequent community contact with fellow workers,” the CDC report said. “Many of these factors might also contribute to ongoing community transmission.”
